SMITE Fall 2017 Collegiate Championship League Rules

League Rules


Online group stages leading up to a championship phase with round-robins and a Gauntlet. A semi-final round will determine the top 2 teams who will be flown to Hi-Rez Studios Esports Arena to compete for the $10,000 scholarship prize pool!

Each player is responsible to know the following rules:


  • Registration closes September 17th, 11:59pm EST
  • How to Register:
    • Register yourself on
      • Your AVGL Username must match your SMITE IGN
    • Once you have logged in, you will see a Create Team button on the top of the page or contact the captain of a team for an invitation
      • If you are the admin of the team, an Invite Player button will be available on player pages
    • Once you have a full roster, the admin will see a Register button on the event page
  • Finding Teammates
  • Requirements: 
    • Teams are allowed a maximum of 7 players.
    • Multiple teams allowed per school
    • Rosters lock after the 4th match day of the regular season
    • Players can only team with players who attend a college or university in the same region
    • Team names must have the school name as the team name
      • The school designation is the college that the majority of players on the team attend
        • If there is no majority of players from a single school, then the team is designated to the school the team captain attends
      • Captains who did not follow this rule and already registered a team can contact an admin on Discord to have a team name change
      • If there are multiple teams from the same school, then the team can add a color such as “University of Connecticut Red”
  • Players who have played in 2 Fall 2017 Smite Pro League matches on any platform are not eligible to compete
    • If a player completes 2 Fall 2017 SMITE Pro League or SMITE Console League matches during the AVGL season, then that player can no longer compete in the AVGL season



  • 1st Place: $6,000.00
    • $1,200 per player
  • 2nd Place: $4,000.00
    • $800 per player
  • 3rd/4th Place: 15,000 gems
  • 5th-8th Place: 10,000 gems 

Prizing is awarded in the form of a scholarship directly to each player's school.

Prizing is awarded to the 5 starting players on a team as designated by the captain.



  • Matches are played on PC on NA servers 
  • Teams are split into groups (Divisions) of 8-10 teams within conferences
    • Divisions and conferences are based on region where possible
    • Number of Conferences and Divisions are based on total teams after entry has closed
  • Round-robin format in each group
    • Each team will play each other one time
      • Groups with more than 8 teams may not face all the teams in their Division
  • After the Group Stage is complete, the top 4 teams from each group will be invited to the championship stages
    • The top teams in each group are determined by:
      • 1. Overall match score
      • 2. In the case of a 2 way tie, then the team with the better head-to-head record will advance
      • 3. In the case of a 3 way or greater tie, the team with the best overall game record will move on


  • Each team will have matches each week with default start times
    • Thursdays at 7:00PM EST
    • Saturdays at 5:00PM EST
    • Saturdays at 7:30PM EST (for days with 2 matches) 
  • Flexible scheduling is allowed to accommodate scheduling issues that will arise
    • Thursday matches can begin up to 72 hours after the standard start time
    • Saturday matches can begin up to 72 hours after the standard start time
  • Teams should always plan to play at the default start time and only use flexible scheduling as a last option
  • Flexible scheduling start times are determined between the captains of both teams and discussed on the AVGL Match Page
    • Both captains must agree to an alternate start time
      • To adjust start time, the captain must change the time on the match page and leave a comment for the desired time
    • All rescheduling agreements must be confirmed 12 hours prior to the default start time
      • If an alternate start time cannot be agreed upon, then the match must start at the default start time
        • It is not considered unsportsmanlike to refuse a time change and captains are not required to provide a reason for refusing a time change
  • A team must have 5 players in the lobby within 15 minutes of the start time or they forfeit the match

  • Championship Match Dates:
    • October 14th
      • Gauntlet Match 1 - 5:00 PM EST
      • Gauntlet Match 2 - 7:00 PM EST
      • Gauntlet Finals - 9:00 PM EST
    • October 19th
      • Round Robin Match 1 - 7:00 PM EST
      • Round Robin Match 2 - 8:00 PM EST
      • Round Robin Match 3 - 9:00 PM EST
    • October 21st
      • Semi 1 - 5:00 PM EST
      • Semi 2 - 7:30 PM EST
  • Grand Finals
    • November 12th
      • LAN at Hi-Rez Studios Esports Arena


  • The first stage of the championship will be a Gauntlet between the top 4 teams of each group, with seeding based on the group's regular season standings
    • Matches are Single Elimination, Best of 3 
  • The second stage of the championship will be a round robin between all 4 Gauntlet winners to determine seeding for the final bracket
    • Matches are Best of 1, no eliminations
    • All teams play each other once
    • In the case of any tie that can't be broken using head-to-head or match records, the seeding order will be determined by the fastest winning game time
  • The third stage of the championship will be a single elimination Bo5 bracket to determine the final 2 teams for LAN
    • Seeding of this bracket is determined by the round robin completed in the previous stage
  • The top 2 teams qualify for a trip to Hi-Rez Studios Esports Arena to play the Best of Five (5) Grand Final on LAN on November 12th
    • Flight dates are TBD at this time


  • Match information such as lobby name, lobby password, and start time are shown on the AVGL Match Page visible to the team captains
  • The winning team’s captain must report the score within 2 hours of match completion
    • The winning team’s captain must enter the Match ID into the Match Page Chat Log after submitting the score
  • Players must use their AVGL username in-game
    • First reported failure to do so will result in a warning
    • All subsequent failures to display AVGL team tags in-game will result in suspensions
  • "Draft Conquest"
    • Match Selection: Conquest
    • Team Size: 5v5
    • Starting Level: 1
    • God Picking Method: Draft - Conquest
    • Starting Gold: 1500
    • Pause Type: Normal
    • Bonus Time: 90
  • Best of 3 maps
    • Game 1
      • Home team has 1st ban & pick and hosts the lobby
    • Game 2
      • Away team has 1st ban & pick and hosts the lobby
    • Game 3
      • The team with the faster winning time decides if they want to have 1st ban & pick in the 3rd round and hosts the lobby
  • Match communication between teams must be related to pausing or saying “gg”
    • The AVGL strictly enforces sportsmanship policies regarding communication between teams
    • Use of SMITE's in-game VGS system taunts and laughs will be considered as unsportsmanlike behavior
  • NPC’s or bots can never participate in a game and are not considered substitutes


  • Matches must be finished until victory or a surrender ending; you cannot leave a game based on a disputable claim. Finish the game and issue the dispute afterwards.
    • ​Take end game screenshots and keep the match id in case of a dispute and required proof
    • If a player is dropped or disconnects, they should reconnect as fast as possible and continue play
      • In regards to disconnected player, restart or rematch can only take place if both captains agree to it
    • In the event of a tournament server crash or malfunction, any affected games will be remade from the start. However, a team will be awarded a win instead of a restart if the following criteria is met: 
      • The game has lasted more than 25 minutes
      • The gold differential is 15k+
      • They have destroyed two enemy Phoenixes
  • Anytime a match is remade, then the same Gods must be chosen unless the remake was due to an auto-banned God
  • A match that is forfeited before any games are completed results in a 0-2 score.
    • This includes no-shows
    • A match that has at least one game played and then is forfeited will take into account the played game(s)
      • For instance, if a team is leading 1-0 and must forfeit the match, then the resulting score is 1-2


  • Pausing in the middle of any engagement such that it would give either of the teams’ an advantage is strictly prohibited.
    • The Game will not resume (/pause) until agreement from both teams is clearly stated in game chat
    • If any player pauses or unpauses the game without permission, it may be considered unsportsmanlike
    • Each team is allowed a maximum of three (3) pauses per Game. Each pause cannot exceed more than three (3) minutes. Without unpausing the game, the timer for the next pause will begin.


  • Banned Skins:
    • All Gold, Legendary, Diamond, and Shadow skins
    • Dark Lord Sun Wukong
    • Nutcromancer and Galactic Ah Puch
    • Starslayer Anhur
    • Death Machine and Feaster Bunny Bakasura
    • Secret Agent Apollo
    • Chronos 64
    • Recon Artemis
    • Sun Star Ra
    • Paradigm Awilix
    • Paradigm Ward Skin
    • Hun.Batz
    • Noble Knight Osiris
    • Trig eSports Ward Skin
    • Other skins may be made unavailable for use upon an Administrator’s discretion
  • If a game starts and minions spawn with a banned skin in play without either team making a statement about the issue, then the match is live and will be played out
  • Auto-Banned Gods
    • Any gods currently auto-banned in Ranked are not allowed
    • Teams do not manually ban these gods, they just cannot select them
      • First offense is a lobby remake with the same picks/bans that were made up to that point
        • Continuous attempts to pick an auto-banned god can result in sportsmanship misconduct penalties
        • If a game starts and minions spawn with an auto-banned god selected without either team making a statement about the issue, then the match is live and will be played out


  • No spectators are allowed except for AVGL admins or AVGL broadcasters
  • Players can broadcast their match
    • If a player decides to broadcast their match, then they accept all responsibility for stream related issues or other players viewing the stream
      • The AVGL will not enforce any reports of stream sniping
    • If you are streaming your match, then let us know by Tweeting @AVGL_SMITE and we will Retweet your broadcast link
  • The AVGL reserves the right to stream any AVGL matches
  • The AVGL production team will notify team captains if the match is being streamed
    • The captains must wait for all AVGL production members to be in the match lobby before the match begins
  • You can watch the action live on


  • Coaches/Team Managers are allowed
    • Coaches/Team Managers can be the admin on the team and manage the team schedule
    • Coaches/Team Managers can never play in a match
